Special Response Team

The Special Response Team (SRT) is a team of officers specially training to handle unusual or high-risk situations. History has shown that tactical situations have many faces.   Areas of concern are, but not limited to: Active Shooters, Hostage Situations, Barricaded Gunmen, High Risk Warrant Service, Area Searches, Crowd and Riot Control and Rescue Situations.   Specialized team training and involvement allows for the better use of training resources to best pair personnel to tactical situations.   The SRT is comprised of officers and personnel from three separate organizations, the Laramie Police Department, the University of Wyoming Police Department, and the Laramie Fire Department.   This joint team configuration allows for the better sharing of resources and manpower.   Tactical and special situations are usually very demanding on personnel resources.   Manpower and training costs are divided among the three different departments to bring coordinated efforts to resolve tense and uncertain incidents.

The Laramie Police Department has twelve people committed to the SRT and they serve many specific functions. These people are all volunteers that have to pass rigorous testing and evaluation in order to join the team.  In order to be effective and provide the best service possible, training is of the utmost priority.  The team members train for eight hours a month.  Marksmen are required to provide additional range and qualification documentation.
