Holiday Closures
Christmas Day – December 25th
New Year’s Day – January 1st
RECREATION CENTER - On Wednesday, December 24th (Christmas Eve) the Recreation Center will be open, 5am - 5pm, with the pools closing at 4pm. On Thursday, December 25th (Christmas Day) the Recreation Center will be closed.
On Wednesday, December 31 (New Year's Eve) the Recreation Center will be open, 5am - 5pm, with the pools closing at 4pm. On Thursday, January 1 (New Year's Day), the Recreation Center will be closed.
LARAMIE ICE & EVENT CENTER - will be closed on Thursday, December 25th (Christmas Day), and Thursday, December 31st (New Year's Day). Holiday Leisure Skates are every day beginning December 22-Jan 3 from 12pm-5pm. During the holiday break call our daily hotline, 721-3530, for any changes to our hours of operation.
WYOMING HEALTH FAIRS
There will be no Blood Draws on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31
CHILD CARE - Child care hours will be changing for the holiday season. Beginning Monday, December 22nd, child care will be available Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8am to 1pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 4:30pm to 8:30pm. This schedule will be in effect through Monday, January 12th. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you. |

Teen Night For Junior and Senior High Students
Join us Saturday, Dec. 6, 7-10pm, for music and swimming at the recreation center! A $3 cover charge will include swimming, food and drink as well as get you entered for door prize drawings. All teen events are tobacco, alcohol, and drug-free. Teens will be asked to show a school issued ID or a driver's license for admittance. Please remember that once you leave the building you cannot be re-admitted. |

BOYS JR.JAZZ BASKETBALL
Join this instructional league to help learn the fundamental basketball skills and gain confidence in your abilities. Teams are grouped into three age groups and put on teams within their age group. All participants receive a team jersey. Teams will play one or two games a week mostly on Saturday but may play a game or two as well during a week night. Practices are held after school at various elementary schools and the recreation center throughout each week and follow the coach's availability. Coaches will be volunteer adults from the community and must complete a background screening prior to the start of the season. Coach does get their rosters at a preseason meeting then get with their team to start practices. If you are interested in being a coach please contact the Recreation Center at 721-5269 for more details.

Winter Break Indoor Triathlon |
|
INDOOR TRIATHLON - Prepare to welcome the New Year with the Laramie Community Recreation Center Winter Break Indoor Triathlon. Contestants will sign up for a time slot in which they will swim 500 yards, bike a 10k (stationary bike set at level 10) and then run a 5k (34 laps around the up-stairs track). Top finishers in each age group will receive prizes. You may take as long as you like, however your time starts once you enter the water and ends once you complete the 5k run. The triathlon must be completed all at once, and time slots will be available throughout the eleven day period. Don't like your time, second chance slots will also be available. Sign up now and get a jump on those New Year fitness resolutions. |

Joyce Honour and Molly Boyer, certified personal trainers, are available to all Recreation Center members to help meet your fitness goals. Both Joyce and Molly are certified through the American Council on Exercise, and come to us with education and experience in specific areas of exercise and fitness. For more information on how to begin with a personal trainer at the Recreation Center, contact Cindy Wamberg

Winter Info
SNOWY RANGE SKI AREA - Community Service Day to prepare the Snowy Range Ski Area for the season will take place on Sunday, December 7th from 10am-4pm, all Laramie and Albany County residents are invited to volunteer.
Opening Day for the Ski Area will be December 20th, 2008.
CEMETERY - Construction of the cemetery main road is completed. Thank you, Laramie residents, for your patience during this project.
PARKS - Annual closure of the restrooms for the winter season has been completed for the following parks: Kiwanis, LaBonte, LaPrele, Optimist, Undine, Washington. The porta-potties located at Washington, Laramie, and LaBonte parks, and along the Laramie River Greenbelt will remain open for the winter season.
The Parks Division would like to remind the citizens of Laramie that snow operations along City owned sidewalks, parking lots, and the trail system will be on going as conditions warrant through the winter. The Laramie River Greenbelt will be plowed when depth of snow reaches 4 inches. Please contact Mike Malloy, Senior Maintenance Worker at 721-5257 if you have any questions regarding the Parks Division snow removal operations.

Conditioning Alternatives
KAYAKING & SCUBA DIVING
Take advantage of this great opportunity to keep your kayaking or scuba/snorkeling skills sharp in a controlled environment! Come to the Recreation Center on Saturday 5:00-7:30pm and Sunday from 5:00-7:00pm! Please make sure all gear is clean before bringing into the pool. Help us keep our pool water clean. (For those of you that are beginning kayakers please bring someone along with you to help you with rolls.)
DROP-IN WATER POLO
On Wednesday nights, 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. we offer Drop-In Water Polo. If you are 13 years or older, come out and learn the basics of this great aquatic activity. There will be instructions for new players and scrimmages to hone your skills. Fee: Free with Rec Center admission. |

Scholarships Still Available
Recreation Center Scholarships are still available! Scholarships are awarded based upon income and family size using the free and reduced lunch eligibility guidelines. They permit a Laramie child and their parent or guardian access to the Rec Center for up to 60 daily visits each year at a 70% REDUCED COST. Passes are issued on a first come, first served basis. |
